Leica FS C Forensic Comparison Macroscope
by Scott Doyle

The FS C was delivered to the lab in two large cardboard boxes.  One contained the table and the other larger box contained the macroscope and accessories.

Setup/Features-The Table
After lugging the very heavy box containing the table back to the firearm section I proceeded to unpack and assemble the table by myself.  Something I would not recommend you try!  The table consists of the lower base, a motorized pedestal, a metal mounting plate, the table top and the motor control unit.  Also included is all of the hardware needed to assemble the table.

I removed the major pieces from the box and started the assembly by bolting the pedestal to the lower base.  An AC  power cord has to be routed out the side of the pedestal.  Next the motor control unit had to be plugged into what appeared to be a CAT-5 modular plug located at the top of the pedestal.  A metal plate was then attached to the top of the pedestal and the table top was attached to the metal plate.

Lastly, the motor control unit was mounted on the underside of the tabletop.  This unit is simple enough with an up and down button.  Even I can't screw that up!

Once assembled, this is a heavy and very sturdy table!  We have a Leica DM C macroscope at our Central Forensic Lab that has a similar table and the FS C table is much sturdier in my opinion.  With the FS C sitting on the table there is absolutely no wobble or shaking.

The motor in this table makes absolutely no noise when raising the tabletop.  The tabletop slowly moves upward which allows your legs to fit comfortably below the table.  Lowering the tabletop is just as easy.
